Előadó:Szabó Roland

I am an English teacher at Partium Christian University, Oradea, where I started activity in 2013 at the Modern Languages department, teaching Business English for students on economic profile. Since 2015 I have been teaching Translation Practices, Audio-Visual Translation and Business Communication at the English Language and Literature department, as well.

Előadás absztrakt:
How to capture attention and increase understanding when explaining grammar to students who speak English relatively well, but their accuracy leaves a lot to be desired? Grammar has an extremely bad reputation among students, and is labeled as boring and confusing by many. Students often find it superfluous as a result of several previous unsuccessful attempts of learning and understanding it. In this paper, however, I wish to emphasize the factors that lead to a more effective and a more intriguing way of teaching grammar to primarily intermediate and higher level students. Daring and customized examples, realistic approach, clear illustration of the point, student involvement, constant interaction, logical thinking, focusing on certain aspects and neglecting others, story-telling, and humor all play a significant role in this study.
